Environment
I combine approaches of political sociology, spatial planning, and critical geography to the study of institutions and socio-spatial change in cities. I study the relation between changing planning regulations and socio-ecological justice, and critically explore planning paradigms able to achieve social justice within planetary boundaries.
I am currently coordinating an international ERC-Funded project on urbanization, degrowth and the circular economy. I am founder and coordinator of the Postgrowth Cities Coalition, part of the community of de-growth scholars in Europe and The Netherlands, and coordinator and curator of the Masterstudio Future Cities and co-initiator and advisor of the social-housing cooperative de Nieuwe Meent in Amsterdam.

Teaching focus
My teaching is both theoretical and practical. I am coordinator of the key BA course ‘Theories of Spatial Interventions’, an introduction to past, present and future paradigms of planning and collective action. I am coordinator, curator and organizer of the Masterstudio of Postgrowth Planning, a participatory teaching program that develops, tests and assess new paradigms of socio-spatial organization in practice.
