I am researching the impact of urban physical and socio-cultural environments on cyclists’ subjective experiences. My work focuses on cyclists’ sensory and affective responses to different urban corridors, as well as their interactions with other road users and the associated cognitive changes. Additionally, I explore the interplay between attitudes and behaviors that influence individuals in the Netherlands to cycle in challenging weather conditions. Throughout my PhD project, I emphasize the importance of expanding the discourse on active mobility promotion beyond physical infrastructure. I advocate for adaptive strategies that account for local conditions and cultural contexts, rather than replicating a singular, country-specific development model.

How is the subjective experience of cycling defined and measured in academia?
If and how do physical environments trigger diverse sensory interpretations and affective states? In particular, I emphasize the positive aspects of the cycling experience.
How do socio-cultural factors shape attitudes, habits, and behaviors toward cycling in adverse weather conditions in the Netherlands?
