Governance

My research is focused on negotiation processes in urban, large-scale mixed-use urban development projects and the perceptions of private-sector property market actors and regulatory urban planning actors. This project utilises case studies in major European cities that have been developed in the past two decades to investigate the role of financialisation in development, entrepreneurial governance arrangements, and the evolution of commercial property markets in these respective places. I assess how perceptions between private sector property market actors and regulatory urban planning actors can shape negotiations in the development process and resulting development. I also investigate the climate in which these negotiations take place, which has become largely influenced by new, non-traditional property market actors, as well as marketisation and financialisation of the property market landscape as a whole.

Research question

How do perceptions of private-sector property market and regulatory urban planning actors shape the negotiation processes of urban mixed-use development in commercial districts and thus resulting impact to the built environment in the Post Global Financial Crisis era?
