Environment
I am an architect, Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and an external PhD candidate at the Amsterdam Institute of Social Sciences Research (AISSR) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). I have over 20 years of experience in practice and was an Associate at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).
My research is at the interface of academia and practice, focusing on the social dimension in shaping the urban environment. My research focuses on processes through which architecture is produced and reproduced, and the actors that drive these processes. I have conducted extensive research concerning both the processes through which ideas and representations of space are conceived and developed during design processes, and the lived experiences and appropriation of space by users and communities post-construction. My focus is on iconic cultural buildings in East-Asian cities.
Research question
How are iconic buildings produced by global architectural firms, and reproduced by users and individuals through embodied processes of their conception, design, use, inhabitation, and daily practices?
