Recognizing the urgent need for a degrowth-oriented planned reduction of material throughput, my PhD investigates the ideological underpinnings of contemporary production and consumption patterns. I focus on how these ideologies shape people’s sense of self and their role in production and consumption processes. More specifically, I am interested in the potential for a counter-hegemonic circularity that prioritizes sufficiency and reduced material consumption. I argue that a truly just and ecological circular economy necessitates a fundamental shift, revaluing and reorganizing circular work as a form of (re)production grounded in an ethics of care.
