As part of the DECYCLE project, my research explores the regional scale of degrowth transformations. I am particularly interested in how processes of Othering create unequal regional power dynamics and discursively construct urban-rural dichotomies, a core mechanism of capitalist urbanization.
I investigate metabolic relations between the urban core and the non-urban ‘other’ and thereby examine how regions are (re- and de-) constructed. The notion of bioregionalism helps me to understand the spatialization of degrowth principles such as care for soil, sufficiency and essential social services.
