We would like to invite you to partake in a unique series of masterclasses exploring the role of film as a research method. Uncover new modes and methods to enable, probe and develop fresh questions within our research areas to read and reread, and to reveal the city and urban fabric.
Technical fundamentals with Michael Tahmoressi
Michael Tahmoressi is a communication studies researcher and a PhD fellow. He will develop our understanding of the fundamentals of film recording taking us through the technical aspects of camera operation, lighting and editing.

An interdisciplinary & feminist lens
Visual artist, lecturer and researcher Nadja Marcin will bring her expertise and background to lead an interdisciplinary masterclass utilising a feminist lens to look at performative aspects of film-making and creative ways to communicate research.

Film as essay with Dr. Ersan Ocak
Award winning urbanist and feature/documentary film maker Dr Ersan Ocak kicked-off with his Film as Essay methods masterclasses. He introduced a theoretical and overview of film-making to interrogate ideas around knowledge production and innovation in the field. It opened up the way for those approaching film as methodology for the first time.
