I am interested in urban governance, particularly how policy, politics, and polity organize and structure urban functioning. My research and professional development have focused on disaster risk management and urban development in Chile, and circular city development in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. I have taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in public administration theory, political economy, urban sustainability, environmental management and circular economy. All this has allowed me to advise several European cities and regions in their transition towards a circular economy. Currently, I am part of the project “Ways of water: Overcoming conflicting sustainability pathways in the Port of Amsterdam“.

Research project

The EU Cities Mission aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, but conflicting interests hinder coherent sustainability efforts, especially in sensitive urban areas such as the Port of Amsterdam. The Ways of Water (WoW-PoA) project focuses on understanding perceptions of the port’s water system and its social, environmental, and technological dynamics. Through interdisciplinary research and stakeholder collaboration, it seeks to develop a shared vision and identify pathways for a sustainable and resilient water system.
